We chose a bog standard two litre Mondeo fitted with the two litre TDCI engine. The car was first registered in 2003 and had done in excess of 100,000 miles. We mo
nitored the fuel consumption over two tank fills. Prior to fitting the Dragon this came out to 435 miles from full up to warning light on. We also did an engine torque and acceleration test as follows. We dropped the car into fifth gear at 40mph, this meant that the engine was well off the power band and idling along at about 1400 rpm, we then accelerated at full throttle until the speed hit 70mph and timed the results. Over three runs the time averaged out at 12 seconds.
We then fitted the conversion kit which took us about an hour by the time that we had finished and did the identical test again. This time the time dropped to 10.5 seconds. Economy also improved with the fuel light now coming on at 480 miles a 10% increase. The change in performance is noticeable but not astounding however the additional power finally finished off the clutch which gave up the ghost within two months of the equipment being fitted.
So do we recommend it? Yes we do; it does everything that is claimed without losing any driveability. (Just make sure that the clutch is not knackered)
